Wildlife and Ecology from the Piedmont to the Appalachia

Rapid land-use change, climate-driven shifts in species distributions, and increasing human-wildlife interactions threaten the state’s rich natural heritage, public safety, and economic vitality. We see an immediate need to coordinate efforts across the region to develop an integrated, agile, and easy-to-use action plan that supports natural capital while enabling regional growth. To do so, we need to coordinate biodiversity conservation efforts among academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies, and in doing so, develop a data-driven approach to conserving Georgia’s plant and animal diversity for generations to come. Specifically, we need to:

  • Consolidate & standardize data collections across wildlife & ecology projects
  • Utilize university students for progressing government and NGO projects
  • Better leverage and coordinate citizen science data and community engagement
  • Increase communication between wildlife professionals from different sectors

We need your help to coordinate efforts! Please fill out the following surveys (an active link means an active survey):

  • A survey of completed, ongoing, and planned wildlife conservation and ecology research projects
  • A request for help compiling a list of volunteer opportunities
  • A solicitation for research projects for university students
